New Search Feature Harnesses Remote Jobs for Veterans and Military Spouses

Veteran job seekers and military spouses have more choices than ever before when it comes to finding the right career, thanks to our ever-evolving partnership with Google Cloud. On April 25, 2019, Google Cloud announced its work from home/remote search capability feature in a post featuring RecruitMilitary.

Our [job board]( has more than 1.4 million registered candidates and is powered by Google Cloud Talent Solution’s job search functionality. By delivering a better search experience for remote work opportunities, veteran job seekers and military spouses alike can unearth more flexible jobs to suit their specific needs.

###Immediate Results###

“We often get questions about how candidates can find remote or work from home jobs,” said Mike Francomb, Senior Vice President of Technology for Bradley-Morris/RecruitMilitary. “Now a candidate can type in ‘work from home’ or ‘remote work; (quotation marks not needed for search feature), and Google’s Cloud Talent Solution will comb our jobs and return the ones that either are expressly noted or very likely can be remote worker positions.”

This AI-powered solution will allow veteran job seekers to transform their job search and mold a career to fit their needs. A simple search on our job board using “work from home” immediately yielded more than 11,300 opportunities.

###Solving a Problem###

Locating remote opportunities on job boards hasn’t always been easy. “Our customers have told us it is difficult to accurately detect and return remote opportunities when users enter ‘work from home’ or related queries into their search box,” said Google Cloud in its announcement. “By offering this capability to our customers, we hope to make remote work opportunities more discoverable to job seekers who need them.”

Moreover, Google Cloud noted how today’s job seekers have different lifestyle and geographic needs that require flexibility. “Working from home can enable parents and caregivers to be more available to their families. It can help retain a high performing employee who regularly relocates as a military spouse.”

###A Win for Military Spouses###

The technology could be a game changer for the most overlooked segment of the veteran community: military spouses, who face labor market constraints such as geographic limitations, frequent moves, license and certification red tape, and child care costs. The Institute for Veterans and Military Families estimates that the unemployment rate for military spouses is as much as three times higher than their civilian peers and more than double the national average. In addition, roughly a third are also underemployed based on their educational background.

“The acceptance of remote work scenarios continues to grow, and we’re excited that our job board now more fully supports this movement,” continued Francomb. “This will especially assist military spouses in their careers by finding portable roles they can take with them as they move with their service member spouse during their military career. And for veterans who desire work-from-home options, this feature increases the likelihood they can find these options through our job board, which is now easier to use because it’s powered by advanced technology.”

This announcement comes on the heels of a new functionality within Google’s Cloud Talent Solutions [announced in March 2019]( that lets job seekers filter jobs by commute time and mode of transit.
