We Are Veterans, Too

At Bradley-Morris and RecruitMilitary, we’ve made it our mission to serve the men and women in the military community by introducing them to opportunities in the civilian sector. It’s an honor, and we’ve been doing it for more than twenty years. To kick off Veterans Day, we asked our team members comprised of veterans, military spouses, and military dependents who grew up with parents who served why our mission is so important to them.

###What does military community mean to you?###

“Sacrifice. As a Navy brat, I saw first-hand how my mom kept everything going when my dad was away for extended periods of time. the military community is all about stepping up when it’s needed, but also coming together and getting involved.” – Tucker Harrell, National Account Executive, U.S. Navy “Brat”

###How and why do you use your civilian career to give back?###

“When I got out of the service, I had to take a job that wasn’t a good fit. I didn’t know what else was out there for me. Now I can help veterans who are in a similar position. I get to show them that they have options and that their potential is greater than they think.” – Robert Walker, Program Manager, U.S. Army Veteran

“The military gave me the chance to be part of something bigger than myself, and then go on and use benefits to get my degree. Now I assist other veterans by helping them find employment opportunities post-military.” – Sam Carlson, Client Relationship Manager, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

“In the Marines, I learned that servant leadership means taking care of your fellow servicemembers first. Now it’s second nature to help the military community.” – Anthony Ordway, Account Executive, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

“Working at a company that focuses on helping transitioning military is such a fulfilling way for me to say thank you to the men and women that served and the family that supported them.” – Ann Harlan, HR and Payroll Administrator, U.S. Navy “Brat”

“I like that I’m able to support other military families and their lifestyle as they transition out of the military. Connecting with people by helping them find employment opportunities and resources is rewarding.” – Kelly Wagner, Public Relations Manager, PA. Army National Guard Spouse

###What advice do you have for those transitioning out of the military?###

“Be empowered to be involved in your future. Be willing to check your ego and prove yourself all over again in the civilian world. it's not where you start, it's where you finish.” – Larry Slagel, Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

“Historically speaking, there has never been a better time to transition out of the military. Even though it’s never easy, the opportunities available to you have never been more exciting than they are right now.” – Tim Mossholder, Vice President, Experience, U.S. Navy Veteran

“Don't look at transition as a step back in your career. when you find the right job, you will realize that your military experience gave you a head start into a new chapter.” – Brian Morgan, Account Executive, U.S. Navy Veteran

“It's a stressful time because of all the external change. make sure you have an emotional support system in place.” – Elizabeth Stetler, Editor, Search & Employ® magazine, U.S. Army Veteran

Our magazine, *Search & Employ®* kicks off a yearlong feature that will run through 2020 called [“We Are Veterans, Too”](http://magazine.recruitmilitary.com/publication/?i=630480&p=&pn=#{%22issue_id%22:630480,%22page%22:32}) in our 2019 November/December issue.
