Search & Employ® Magazine
March / April 2012
Welcome to job seekers who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, veterans who already have civilian work experience, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses. Our company’s continuing mission: to help men and women who have military backgrounds connect with employers, franchisors, and educational institutions.
One of the mechanisms that we use to make the connections is our job board at www.recruitmilitary.com. And now, more than ever, job seekers with military backgrounds need to be fully registered there. Let me tell you why.
Our management group here at RecruitMilitary had a very productive meeting in early February. One of the highlights of the meeting was a progress report on a veteran-hiring product that we call Military Sourcing ServicesTM (MSS).
Employers that use MSS meet with us to discuss their job openings. We work on the job descriptions and the requirements that men and women would need to fill the openings.
We then design a “game plan” to find veterans who would fill the bill. The plan includes a list of questions for our recruiters to ask veteran job seekers during telephone interviews.
Our recruiters then go into the sourcing phase of MSS. And here is where veterans who are registered on our board as job seekers – or “candidates” – come in. The recruiters search our database of registered candidates, filtering the candidates according to the job descriptions. We build a list of candidates for the positions and review their resumes for critical competencies, based on the qualifications previously discussed.
Once we have narrowed down the list, we conduct telephone interviews using the screening questions we had created. We finish the process by submitting to the employer a list of interested, qualified, and available candidates, along with information gathered on those candidates along the way.
The progress report presented at our meeting was a highlight because MSS has been doing very well. So our job board is not just another place to look at job postings and perhaps fill out a few lines of a registration form.
In addition to our own people, recruiters working for employers, franchisors, and educational institutions are constantly searching the database. All of us are looking for detailed information on veteran candidates.
So, if you have not already done so, you really need to fill out the entire registration form and post a well-crafted resume on our board.
Have a great year, best of luck in your job search, and thank you for serving in the armed forces of the United States.
