Search & Employ® Magazine
March / April 2009
A hearty welcome to job seekers who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, job-seeking veterans who already have civilian work experience, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses! This issue marks the first anniversary of Search & Employ. Its continuing mission: to help men and women who have military backgrounds connect with veteran-friendly employers, franchisors, and educational institutions.
A hearty welcome during a recession? Yes! There are bright spots in the economy, and more will appear in coming months. This issue’s cover story focuses on a segment of the economy that is likely to brighten soon. President Obama intends to upgrade the nation’s roads, highways, and bridges. The upgrade will mean jobs, and the cover story and related articles tell you what those jobs are likely to be. In those articles, hiring decision-makers discuss the future of their industries, the future job situation, and—of special importance to you—why they value veterans as employees.
Companies that will upgrade the infrastructure are eager to find people who can lead and work in teams, people who are disciplined and can get the job done—people like you. The same holds for employers throughout Corporate America. In these tough times, companies are especially eager to hire employees who will take to the job immediately, work with great interest and enthusiasm—and learn, learn, learn!
A second group of articles in this issue discusses opportunities for veterans to go into business for themselves as operators of local and regional franchises. Franchisors are eager to help veterans get into business for the same reasons that employers like to hire veterans. And the franchisors know that their franchise holders are “walking advertisements” for their organizations.
To further your job search, we encourage you to register as a job seeker at www.recruitmilitary.com. There, you will find thousands of job postings, and you will join a vast database that is searched by recruiters nationwide. You might also attract the attention of our own search consultants, who fill job orders placed by companies throughout Corporate America.
We also encourage you to attend the RecruitMilitary Career Fairs in your area. Thank you for serving in the armed forces of the United States!
