Search & Employ® Magazine
November / December 2008
Welcome to the fifth issue of Search & Employ, the "connections" magazine for personnel who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, veterans who already have civilian work experience, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses. Its mission: to help men and women who have military backgrounds connect with veteran-friendly employers, franchisors, and educational institutions.
This issue focuses on job opportunities in law enforcement. On these pages, you will find valuable information on municipal, county, state, and federal law-enforcement agencies; and on a wide range of law-enforcement occupations, including police officer, detective, correctional officer, and probation officer. In our cover article, you will read remarks on veteran hiring by James Browning, the military liaison with the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
As you will note throughout our articles, law enforcement agencies are eager to find people who can lead and work in teams, people who are disciplined and can get the job done— people like you. The same holds for employers throughout Corporate America. In these tough economic times, companies are especially eager to hire employees who will take to the job immediately, work with great interest and enthusiasm—and learn, learn, learn!
Franchisors are eager to help people like you get into business for the same reasons—and because they know that their franchise holders are "walking advertisements" for their organizations. Sound familiar? It should. Franchisors understand that military people know all about projecting the values of an organization.
To help men and women who have military backgrounds make occupational and business connections, and to advance themselves via continuing education, we utilize print and online media, including Search & Employ; job postings and databases of registered job seekers at www.recruitmilitary.com and www.destinygroup.com; RecruitMilitary Career Fairs, with more than 150 events in over 50 cities through December 2008 and 100+ scheduled for 2009; and our Professional Services operation, in which our own search consultants find job seekers to fill openings throughout Corporate America. People with military backgrounds use all of these products and services for free. We have been in business since 1998.
We encourage you to register as a job seeker at www.recruitmilitary.com and www.destinygroup.com. There, you will find thousands of job postings and other important announcements by military-friendly organizations. And when you register, you will join vast databases that are constantly being searched by recruiters and hiring managers across the country. Do not miss this free opportunity to get your resume in front of key decision-makers.
Best of luck in your job search, and thank you for serving in the armed forces of the United States!
