Virginia College Military Efforts Get Press in Atlanta
November 16, 2009 (MMD Newswire) — Ashley Damron, an Admissions Associate for Online Programs at Virginia College, was speaking with an interested party at a military career fair in Atlanta when the shutter clicked. A photographer from the Atlanta Journal Constitution was snapping away, and that photo ended up on the front page of the newspaper’s “Business” section on Friday, August 28. The headline for the piece was, “Job fair helps veterans move on.”
Damron was one of several representatives from Virginia College at the fair, produced by RecruitMilitary. The school, along with sister institution, are participating in and sponsoring several of the events, which are being held throughout the country. RecruitMilitary’s web site offers many resources for military personnel, retired or active duty, and their families as well as schedules for future career fairs.
“There are so many changes and new programs going into effect that it is difficult for our veterans and active duty service members to keep up to date,” says Hal Jensen from Virginia College’s Military Student Center. “We are happy to help those who serve us, along with their dependents, figure out the best options for using the educational benefits they have coming.”
The RecruitMilitary job fair was held at the Georgia International Convention Center in suburban College Park, Georgia. About two dozen vendors were available for attendees to visit.
“We really appreciate the hard work of the RecruitMilitary folks,” says Jensen. “They are performing a great service for our military, making sure they find the right educational opportunities or careers before and after they leave the service. We have on-ground campuses for Virginia College near major military facilities as well as offering many programs via the Internet. Golf Academy of America also has locations near military bases. We are pleased to be able to meet the educational needs of many of our service members and their families.”
