Opportunity Expo for Military Veterans and Military Spouses Coming to Chicago on October 15
Chicago (PRWEB) September 21, 2009 — The military-to-civilian recruiting firm RecruitMilitary (www.recruitmilitary.com) will present a free employment, entrepreneurship, and education event for job seekers who have military backgrounds in Chicago on Thursday, October 15. This event, the RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expo, will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Forum, and will be sponsored by Sylvan Learning, Inc. (www.sylvanfranchise.com). The Expo will be open to veterans who already have civilian work experience, men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses.
At 10:00 a.m., Sylvan Learning will present a free seminar, “Discover Sylvan Learning: A How-To Seminar on Franchise Ownership.” The seminar will be open to the general public, and Sylvan is encouraging small-business owners and entrepreneurs to attend. Afternoon seminars will be open to only individuals who are attending the Expo. Sylvan Learning has created an electronic pre-registration site for the seminars.
The Opportunity Expo will be the 54th of 68 such events scheduled for 2009. An all-star team of veteran-friendly organizations will conduct one-on-one interviews with the job seekers—organizations that will include corporate employers, law-enforcement agencies and other government employers, franchisors, educational institutions, veterans service agencies, and veterans associations. Already in the line-up are the American College of Technology, Argosy University/Denver, Benedictine University, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Columbia College, CSX Transportation, the Department of Veterans Affairs—Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Service, DeVry University, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Ellis University, Everest College/Chicago, FranNet, the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Illinois Troops to Teachers, the National Acquisition Center of the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Acquisition and Logistics, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, New York Life, Olivet Nazarene University, Pillar To Post, Schlumberger, Service Express, the Social Security Administration, Sylvan Learning, T-Mobile, The Art Institutes, Wackenhut Corporation, and Walgreens.
RecruitMilitary will produce the Opportunity Expo in cooperation with The American Legion; HireVetsFirst, a unit of the United States Department of Labor; and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN).
More than 1,275 organizations attended 147 RecruitMilitary events in 2007 and 2008. Those Expos generated television coverage by ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX affiliates as well as local independent channels; articles in major metropolitan and local newspapers as well as The Wall Street Journal; and extensive radio coverage, including remote live broadcasts from events.
